ONE can only agree with R Quirk (Letters, September 19, 'Get behind our country') that important decisions are better taken when based on truthful information.

But, while I have no inside knowledge on the matter, I can find no evidence the Liberal Democrats have said they would ignore the result of another referendum.

More troubling, however, is Mr Quirk’s use of language: words such as "hypocrisy", "traitors" and "betrayed" do nothing to promote reasoned debate on such an important issue.

Most offensive of all is his implication that to prefer remaining within the European Union is in some way unpatriotic. This is nonsense.
