Four flood warnings and 14 flood alerts are in place in Cumbria following heavy rainfall.

The flood warnings relate to the Wigton area.

However, the flood alerts include:

Coast at North Morecambe Bay

Large waves are expected along North Morecambe Bay as a result of high spring tides. Tides will be at their highest between 12:45 and 14:45 today. Levels could remain high two hours either side of the high tide. Consequently, flooding of low lying land and roads is expected at Roosebeck, South Ulverston, Canal Foot, Crake estuary, Rusland Valley, Leven estuary, Eea estuary, Flookburgh, East Plain Farm, Grange-over-Sands, Meathop, Kent estuary, Milnthorpe, B5282 coast road, Sandside and Arnside areas.

The high tide at 02:00 on 02/10/2019 will also be above the flood alert threshold. The following tides will not reach this level.

The Environment Agency said: "Please avoid using low lying coastal footpaths and roads."

Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster

Flooding is possible - be prepared

River and lake levels remain high as a result of heavy overnight rainfall over the South Lakes area. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible in the Langdale, Grasmere, Ambleside, Troutbeck, Windermere, Hawkshead, Rusland Valley, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cartmel, Cark and Winster Valley areas. The EA said: "Our incident response staff are clearing grids and debris screens. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and driving through flood water."

Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck

Flooding is possible - be prepared

River levels have risen overnight at the Fitz Bridge river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Our main area of concern is the Ulverston area. High river levels are expected on Dragley Beck. Consequently flooding is possible. Low lying land and roads may be affected. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

Lune Estuary

Flooding is possible - be prepared

A Flood Alert for the Lune Estuary has been issued as a result of high spring tides and strong winds. Consequently, flooding is possible up to two hours before and after the high tides at 01:22 and 13:46 on Tuesday 01/10/2019.

Flooding to roads and farmland is possible at these times. However, conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide. Affected areas include low lying land, roads and coastal paths at Lancaster, Skerton, Marsh, Aldcliffe Marsh, Heaton Marsh, Overton, Middleton, Glasson and Thurnham. We are closely monitoring the situation.

Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

Meanwhile, flooding is reported on the A6 both ways from B5320 (Eamont Bridge) to Wetheriggs (Brougham). Motorists are advised to approach with care. Sensors suggest traffic is passing through slowly.
