Kendal Torchlight Carnival and Street Party 2019 - didn’t they do well!
Twenty-four hours of fun. I lost my head and announced I would do the Torchlight fun run next year; learnt how to put on a sari and danced with the Abhinandana Dance Academy; and signed up to shopappy.com (browse, book and buy local online).
And that’s on top of the tractors, the Young Farmers, the schools, the youth groups, the wonderful Lake District Radio, the bands - brilliant to have Blast Furness playing before the procession - and Kendal’s own fantastic Torchlight entry, organised and created by Kendalians over the summer.
A friend from the South commented that because the Carnival Street Party takes place between Taylor’s funfair on New Road and Highgate in Kendal town centre, it made it very busy and very friendly. I’ll say. I made new friends and hung out with lots of old ones.
It was good to see an increasing number of local businesses involved and hear that the gazebos were loaned by Kendal Farmers' Market.
A truly community event by the people, for the people, and with the people. I can’t wait until next year.
Support it.
