FROM William Wordsworth's former workplace to a country house stayed in by Beatrix Potter, "an incredible" 67 Cumbrian restaurants are featured in the AA's new Restaurant Guide 2020.

Described as "the food lover’s guide to the best cuisine in Britain and Ireland", the 27th edition lists more than 2,000 eating places currently awarded AA rosettes for culinary excellence by the AA's professional inspectors.

From fine dining to beloved local eateries, the practical guide includes more than 140 venues listed for the first time.

They include Mizu, at the Lodore Falls Hotel in the Borrowdale Valley. The two AA rosette restaurant has an Asian-inspired menu, an open kitchen, bar and riverside terrace, and takes its name from the Japanese for "falling water" as it overlooks a waterfall.

Among the well-loved establishments in the 2020 guide are Ambleside chef Ryan Blackburn's Old Stamp House, where William Wordsworth held office as distributor of stamps for Westmorland; the award-winning Black Swan at Ravenstonedale, where head chef Scott Fairweather leads the kitchen team; and Ees Wyke Country House at Near Sawrey, which Beatrix Potter and her family rented as a holiday home.

Simon Numphud, managing director at AA Media, said “We are pleased to see the hospitality industry going from strength to strength, with more than 140 new dining destinations being added to The Restaurant Guide 2020.

"The establishments in this year’s guide demonstrate the high quality of culinary experiences across the country, offering delicious food and impeccable service.”
