THE mayor of Kendal offered lunch on behalf of the town's people to a Buddhist monk who is celebrating 20 years of teaching in Kendal.
Venerable Pidiville Piyatissa was the guest of Cllr Alvin Finch at the mayor's parlour in Kendal Town Hall.
The Sri Lankan-born monk led a retreat at Kendal fire station to mark his two decades of teaching the Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) and Keswick Buddhist Group.
He is the head of the Ketumati Buddhist monastery in Manchester.
It is believed Venerable Piyatissa led the first retreat led by a Buddhist monk to take place at working fire station in the UK, at Kendal fire station back in September 2011.
During his recent visit to the mayor's parlour, he presented Kendal's mayor with a copy of his book, An Exposition of Buddhism..
