AN OFSTED inspection has rated an all-boys boarding school as 'Outstanding'.

Following a rigorous examination Lancaster Royal Grammar School has once again been scored as 'Outstanding' in all boarding areas, including the overall experiences and progress of children, how well pupils are helped and protected and the effectiveness of leaders and managers.

Headmaster Dr Chris Pyle said: “It is fabulous to see the exceptional quality of our boarding provision celebrated in this report. Boarding at LRGS is very special indeed, and I am delighted to see that reflected so clearly in this report."

Inspectors spent a lot of time speaking to our boarders, and it is excellent to see their positive comments about their experience of the boarding community."

He added :"I am particularly pleased that the outstanding work of all our dedicated boarding staff is highlighted so strongly in this report.

"We remain ambitious to continue to work hard to further improve the educational opportunities and pastoral care for all boarders.”

The Ofsted report highlighted that pupils make excellent progress in learning social and functional independence skills. Boarding supports their academic, work and sporting life.

Staff were recognised for working hard to build warm, trusting and respectful relationships.

Inspectors commented that; "The boarding community is a welcoming and fun place to be.

"Children flourish in the positive and safe environment of the boarding house.

"The school has at its heart the aim to help children excel. The school pastoral support team offers children a high-quality, bespoke service."

The inspectors noted that ‘leaders and managers show exceptional levels of competency and compassion' and that it was a school that created 'extraordinarily positive experiences and maximises the progress of boarders.’
