JOHN Graham is right to raise serious concerns that South Lakeland District Council is wasting significant council tax in a ridiculous attempt to "identify charging sites" (Letters, 'Plug-in points seldom used', November 7).

Apart from the fact such charging points are seldom used and take up an inordinate amount of space, they are unnecessary. The number of electric cars is relatively few and can (and should) be charged domestically at the owner’s expense. When my car needs refuelling, like everyone else I have to drive to a petrol station. I don’t want or expect SLDC to spend money to make my life easier.

Those who choose to have an electric car should have considered how they can best "refuel” before they made their purchase and not expect to be favoured at the expense of other taxpayers.
