COMMUNITY leaders have shared their concern after a man was stabbed in the leg.

Police have launched an investigating following the attack, which took place in the Ormsgill area of Barrow.

A 43-year-old man was said to have been stabbed in the leg in an incident at Low White Close on Sunday at around 2.30pm.

Police said his injuries were ‘not life threatening’.

Ormsgill Councillor Bill McEwan, said: “I've only just found out about this but I think instances like these these are very few and far between in these areas of Ormsgill.

“It is very shocking for the whole community, as news like this makes them start to worry.

“I give my best wishes to the man involved and I hope that he is okay.

“This is just terrible for the community and we do not want this happening in our area.

“They cannot be going around doing this, it is something we have to sort out.

“I advise the community to be vigilant and look out for anything suspicious, but do not get involved with it yourself, report anything like this to the police.”

Barrow mayor, Cllr Kevin Hamilton, said: “The question is why was someone walking around with a knife in the first place?

“It is frightening, whoever needs to walk around with a knife in Barrow, we have a good community here and we do not need this.

“We do not want an epidemic of knife crime here like the rest of the country.

“If anyone sees somebody with a knife they should report it to the police.”

A Cumbria police spokesman said: “We are investigating an assault which occurred on Sunday November 10 at around 2:30pm in the area of Low White Close, Barrow.

“A 43-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries to his leg, sustained by a knife.”

Officers have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing or knows anything about it to come forward with information.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101, email 101@cumbria.police.uk, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
