A MAN who died in a crash on the A66 at Stainmore has been identified as Stephen Cloudsdale, 61, of Millom.
The incident on Monday, which involved a HGV and a Ford Fiesta, led to closure of the westbound and eastbound carriageways of the road.
Mr Cloudsdale, the driver of the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 50-year-old man, the driver of the HGV, was arrested following the collision and has since been released under investigation.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Constabulary said: "The family are being supported by specialist officers and have asked for their wish not to be contacted directly by the media to be conveyed."
They added: "Investigating officers would like to continue to urge anyone who witnessed the collision or the moments leading up to it to get in touch."
