PUPILS at John Ruskin School, Coniston, have been reaping the benefits of an ‘Enterprise Advisor’ scheme.

Under the scheme, volunteers from local businesses are matched with schools to link them with business contacts and help students make informed decisions about their futures.

In the case of John Ruskin School, Mike Jeschke (second right) from Siemens, Ulverston, has worked with students to introduce participation in First Lego League, an international robotics competition.

The ‘Enterprise Advisor’ project is central to the Cumbria Careers Hub, set up in January of this year with the aim of strengthening meaningful encounters between employers.

Peter Blackburn (far left), head teacher at John Ruskin, said: “The link with Siemens is a really exciting development for us as a school.

“The plans we have worked on together will allow our students to benefit from a huge range of opportunities and ensure that they are in the best possible position to make informed decisions about their future.”
