A SOUTH Lakes funeral director has lodged plans to create a chapel, crematorium and woodland burial site in the Eden Valley.
Beetham-based Fishwicks is looking to convert disused buildings at Ash Hill Farm, near Temple Sowerby, with the planned 1.1-hectare site including a 56-space car park and memorial garden.
The buildings, which will be leased from the Winderwath Estate, will be repaired and extended to include offices, an entrance lobby, toilets, and a covered area at the entrance and exit for the hearse.
There are also plans for a new access road with 56 car parking spaces, as well as reserved space for overflow parking.
The proposed chapel has capacity for 150 visitors, and includes an overspill room to accommodate another 150 people.
Fishwicks said the average funeral attracted about 20 cars, with the largest the company had seen bringing 100 vehicles.
The planning application is open for consultation until tomorrow and Eden District Council has set a target of January 4 for a final decision.
