THE gruelling task of hauling a vehicle up the infamous 'Struggle' incline from Ambleside to the Kirkstone Pass would put many people off.
But the intrepid band of women volunteers who took part in the Kirkstone Car Pull were equal to the task and raised an incredible £6,400 for the Grizedale Unit at Westmorland General Hospital which provides chemotherapy services for patients at the hospital.
Organisers were overjoyed that the annual event raised a record sum this year, and it proved to be an emotional occasion for those who took part, of all whom had been affected by cancer in some way.
The cheque was presented to representatives of the unit this week, and the volunteers thanked everyone who helped in staging the event, most notably Ursula Brendling in offering free training and John Shedwick for photography and videography.
