PEOPLE of many different beliefs gathered to celebrate their diversity during Inter Faith Week 2019 in the Kendal area.
A busy eight-day programme began and ended with services at Kendal's Unitarian Chapel, and also featured:
- film screenings at the Unitarian Chapel and Kendal's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
- a celebration led by 90-year-old Roman Catholic priest Monsignor Francis Slattery at the presbytery in Milnthorpe
- talks at the Quaker Friends Meeting House, Kendal, by interfaith minister Rev Rob Crompton, Kendal's Catholic priest Father Hugh Pollock and Hassan Burrows, leader of the MCIK Muslim Community in Kendal, presented by South Lakeland Equality and Diversity Partnership
- a South Lakeland Interfaith Forum event of poetry, music and prayers for the planet
- an event to welcome the Sabbath with the Lancaster and Cumbria Liberal Jewish Community
- an open day at the Christian Science Reading Room, Kendal
- and an open meeting of the Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada).
Back in 2017, Kendal was acknowledged at the smallest town to hold a week-long programme of events for Interfaith Week, by the Interfaith Network of the UK.
