THE Lake District branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute recently held a coffee morning at the Alpine Café, raising £462.

The branch is grateful to all its supporters for the donations and the owners of the Alpine for generously allowing the use of their premises. 

WINDERMERE and Bowness Chamber of Trade met to discuss matters of local concerns and receive various reports from representatives of other organisations.

Windermere Town Council had thanked the Chamber for the work done in getting the works to the Glebe Road car park delayed until after half-term.

Barry Butler had attended the Windermere Catchment Strategy Key Stakeholder meeting.

Scott Keenan from the sculpture trail committee reported that he had shown Cllr Sandra Lilley (Deputy Mayor, WTC) around the proposed route and she had displayed great interest and would report back at the council meeting.

Adrian Faulkner reported he had attended a brainstorming session of the Bowness and Windermere Forward Group and had presented to them a year-long events calendar for consideration in the new action plan.

The chamber of trade has backed the proposals to tidy up the island in Queens Square, Bowness and the possible reopening of the courts in Windermere as reported by The Westmorland Gazette. 

The Christmas window dressing competition will be judged during the week starting December 9.

There will be two winners, one from Windermere and one from Bowness and they will be invited to attend the January 2020 meeting to receive their trophies.

The next meeting is the Christmas Get-together on December 17.

THE next Coniston Institute community lunch takes place on Monday, November 25 (12.30pm) at the reading room.

Lunch will be followed by a photo share afternoon. A hearty two-course meal, a cosy catch-up with friends, and sharing memories with old village photographs, what better way to enjoy your time.

Helpers are always welcome. 

A GREAT weekend of entertainment starts tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm) with live music from Pons Aelius who are a progressive folk sextet bringing their own brand of high energy music.

Then on Saturday, November 23 (7.30pm) a new, original play – Revelations performed by Tangram Theatre, it’s about the things we do for the people we love.

It is also about friendship, faith, life, death, foxes and doing the right thing even when it means taking off your clothes. 

Both events at the village institute (includes nudity).
