ECO-conscious kids made sure that Grasmere School started using glass instead of plastic bottles for its milk in a bid to be more environmentally friendly.

Although plastic milk bottles can still be recycled, head teacher Jo Goode said it was felt glass bottles were still better for the environment, and had the added benefit of supporting the local milkman.

Mrs Goode said it was one of a number of steps which the children had taken to help the school reduce its carbon footprint. Other examples included having groups go round and check lights were off after lessons, and ensuring the school only bought rich tea biscuits, which didn’t contain palm oil.

Mrs Goode added: “They are aware of the planet, and they are aware that little things do make a difference and make us all feel more positive about what we can do.”
