PATTERDALE Mountain Rescue had a busy weekend after three women became lost on the fells and two men were stuck on snow on ice after a walk.

The team was called on Saturday afternoon when three women became lost in fog on High Street fell.

A small party of volunteers drove their way to Arthur's Pike in the Team Land Rover vehicle.

They found the walkers and were able to escort them back to their start point in Pooley Bridge.

While one team was dealing with the rescue on High Street Cumbria Police requested another group to go to the aid of two male mountaineers who had become stuck on snow and ice while on the decent of Swirral edge after being on the summit of Helvellyn.

The two gentlemen in their mid twenties decided to re-summit to the cross shelter on Helvellyn and await assistance from the team.

The rescue lasted four and a half hours and was attended by 13 volunteer personnel.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue would like to remind fell goers that the days are now short and the light soon fades at this time of year and that plans needed to be made accordingly with walkers also wearing the right kit for the conditions.
