AN EMPTY shop in Kendal has been transformed into a pop-up drop-in space for people to share fears, hopes and dreams about the planet in November.

Loss Rest Hope, at the former Frothimoon shop at 106 Highgate, has been decorated with murals by children and young people.

Visitors to Kendal Mountain Festival explored the space at the weekend, and were treated to bacon butties and coffee by volunteers from Kendal United Reformed Church.

"Loss Rest Hope is a space for people to be angry, be sad, rest, think and look forward,” said Lucy Foster, the church's pioneer worker.

"People in this town are worried about flooding. Others are genuinely heartbroken over the species and habitats that have been destroyed by human activity. And young people across the world and here in Kendal are rightly worried about the world they may have to live in due to climate catastrophe."

Ms Foster explained: “We want to offer people a space where they could begin to express and work through those emotions. So anyone who’s going through that stuff is invited to drop in and see what others are thinking about and then write on the walls, paint their own mural or add their own art to the space. Or just sit for a bit in our giant beanbag and take some time out. Maybe say a prayer.”

Everyone is welcome to drop in at 8am-9.30am, noon-2pm and 4pm-6pm on Wednesdays in November. To visit at other times, you can email Ms Foster at pioneer.kendalurc@protonmail.com
