I WAS very sad to see the letter from Lizzie Mather regarding the granting of planning permission for a new development which involves the destruction of a traditional 18th century farmhouse, The Ghyll in Brigsteer Road (Letters, November 21, 'Sad ending for family home').
My family home was Larch How, next door to The Ghyll, and the two houses together were an important part of the environment of this part of Kendal.
Sadly the land round Larch How was redeveloped some years ago and now The Ghyll is to follow. It is not as if these new houses will be affordable homes catering for the local population; as a native Kendalian I am extremely sad to see this part of our heritage wantonly destroyed in the cause of greed masquerading as progress.
