THE A590 has reopened after being closed for several hours earlier today following a fatal road traffic collision.
The incident took place between Haverthwaite and Backbarrow and is understood to have involved a car colliding with a bridge.
It is believed that the crash happened around 1.30am this morning.
The road was closed from the A592 Newby Bridge roundabout to the Greenodd Roundabout and diversions were in place during the closure.
Cumbria Police have now confirmed that the passenger in the vehicle involved, a 22-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old woman, is not believed to have suffered any serious injury.
Police have also issued an appeal for witnesses.
