SERVICES on the West Coast Mainline are expected to resume this morning after damage to overhead wires in Lancashire caused dozens of cancellations yesterday.
Passengers were stranded for hours yesterday after an electric overhead cable snapped between Lancaster and Preston, Network Rail said.
After emergency repairs overnight, the line has reopened.
However, passengers are being urged to check the status of their journey before they travel.
A spokesman from National Rail said: "Repair work has been carried out throughout the night.
"A normal service is expected to run from 6.30am today, November 28, however some early-morning services may be disrupted."
Some services will still see some disruption this morning as timetables return to normal.
This includes Northern between Manchester Airport and Barrow-in-Furness and Windermere, the Caledonian Sleeper between London Euston and Scotland, TransPennine Express between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central, all Virgin Trains between London Euston and Glasgow Central
Rail users are also being warned of possible delays to some early-morning services on the line - which links Carlisle and Penrith to Scotland and London.
