A Lakes holiday cottage firm has been recognised at a national travel awards.

Heart of the Lakes took silver in the Best UK Cottage Holiday Company (Northern) category in the British Travel Awards 2019.

The award was voted for by the public and the ceremony took place in London last week.

Now in their 11th year, the British Travel Awards is the largest and most influential poll of consumer opinion on the performance of leisure travel and tourism providers.

Over 300,000 people voted for their favourite companies and brands between July and September.

Heart of the Lakes, based in Ambleside, has been operating for more than 40 years.

Matt Hartnett, head of marketing, said: "We are over the moon to receive the award, as voted for by the public, because it represents the opinions of our customers.

"At Heart of the Lakes we work closely with our cottage owners to create welcoming, home-from-home experiences for all our guests, which has resulted in repeat bookings.

"Thanks goes to all members of our fantastic team, who are dedicated to maintaining excellent standards across the board."

British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton added: "Heart of the Lakes to be congratulated on winning silver. Competition was particularly strong this year but ultimately it is the travelling public who decide the winners by voting for the travel companies they consider the best in the business.

"To win an award is truly an accolade."
