A FLOOD alert has been issued for Derwentwater, Stonethwaite Beck and the Upper River Derwent.
The Environment Agency says the lake level has risen as a result of heavy rainfall overnight.
A spokesman said: "Flooding of low lying roads, footpaths and farmland is possible throughout today and into tomorrow (Saturday).
"Low lying land and roads in the Seatoller, Stonethwaite, Rosthwaite, Grange-in-Borrowdale and Derwentwater shoreline areas are at risk.
"High Lake and river levels are possible on the River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck, Watendlath Beck, Derwentwater and their tributaries.
"Further showers are forecast throughout today which will result in Derwentwater Lake level remaining high throughout today and into tomorrow."
The agency spokesman also urged pedestrians and drivers to avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near Derwentwater.
