THE Inner Wheel Club of Ulverston heard a talk by Colin Smith, founder of Ulverston Canal Regeneration Group. He gave an educational and fascinating insight into the work of the group which started some years ago, as they watched the footpath alongside the canal become overgrown and deteriorating fast. Together with a team of helpers the footpath was cleared and is now preserved and enhanced for the community, encouraging thousands of walkers. Wildlife has returned to the canal and otters can be seen in the spring, also owls and water fowl. New information boards are being put up on the history of the canal, which is sadly no longer in use.
