CONSERVATIVE David Morris has been re-elected as MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale for the fourth time.

Mr Morris polled 23,925 votes and had a majority over Labour's Lizzi Collinge who polled 17,571.

There was a lower vote turnout this year compared to 2017 as numbers reached to 67.4 per cent- that’s 45,448 votes.

But, Mr Morris gained more than 2,000 votes compared to 2017's election.

Mr Morris said he was "humbled" to have been re-elected.

In his speech, he said: "It's been a momentous time in politics over the past three years,

"The country has been in paralysis for a very long time.

"I am committed to Brexit and I will vote for the deal that Borish Johnson will put forward.

"I am particularly humbled that the people of Morecambe and Lunesdale have seen fit to give me a historic fourth term.

"Morecambe is open for business."

During the count, Green Party candidate Dr Chloe Buckley said the voting system needed to change so that people weren’t forced to vote tactically.

For Liberal Democrat candidate Owen Lambert said Brexit would “always be a fleeting topic” but that there would be “forever local issues.”

“It’s been a brilliant experience,” he said, “And I am very hopeful for the future, we’re aiming to build on numbers and keep putting local concerns first.”
