£30,000 to fund repair and maintenance work on the Lake District fells was raised in just seven days between December 3 and 10.
The money, raised by the Lake District Foundation in conjunction with the ‘Christmas Challenge’ run by match-funding campaign The Big Give, will support the ‘Fix the Fells’ scheme - a partnership programme between organisations such as the National Trust and Natural England which involves hundreds of volunteers.
Sir Alec Reed CBE, founder of The Big Give, said: “The public’s generosity to this year’s Christmas Challenge has been phenomenal. It demonstrates just how much the public values the work of UK charities and the services they provide.
“Match funding has proved yet again to be an incredibly powerful incentive to give, enabling the public to maximise their impact on good causes.”
