SO THAT old chestnut of a barrage across Morecambe Bay has raised its head yet again.

Of course there is nothing new in a barrage, as I recall it was being mooted when I was a teenager in the 60s, fishing from Morecambe.

The benefits of harnessing the sea to generate power is, of course, excellent. However, the costs now outweigh the benefits.

Also, we now have considerable environmental lobbying which will delay any planning process for years, increasing costs to a point whereby it wouldn't happen.
