THE Wainwright Society has selected an organisation that helps people with disabilities experience the outdoors as its chosen charity for 2020.

The Lake District Calvert Trust, whose motto is 'challenging disability through outdoor adventure' has been chosen as the main beneficiary of funds raised by the Wainwright Society for this year.

The Calvert Trust is an outdoor centre for people with disabilities while also delivering activity breaks for schools, groups, families and individuals.

Money will be raised from donations by members from the Wainwright Society who are taking part in the annual charity challenge along with sale proceeds from the 2021 Society calendars.

Donated funds will be used to provide a bursary to encourage and enable those who might not otherwise be able to experience a residential break at the Trust's Centre bear Bassenthwaite to do so.

These breaks enable people with physical, learning and sensory disabilities, including those with the most complex needs, to benefit from outdoor activities.

Jennifer Scott, Fundraising Manager of the Lake District Calvert Trust said: “We rely on the generosity offered by those who believe in our cause. The Lake District Calvert Trust genuinely could not continue to offer the standard of service we currently do, or ensure we remain affordable to our visitors, without funding support.

"For that reason we are extremely grateful to the continued support from The Wainwright Society and for being chosen as the main beneficiary for its fund raising in 2020.”
