TRAVELLING the towns, villages and country lanes of southern Cumbria, I am often struck by the removal or severe pruning of trees.
I don’t remember such activity in the past. Is it to do with disease, safety, the demands of woodburning stoves, aesthetic desires? I wonder if your knowledgeable readers could explain this widespread slaughter of our woody friends?
