CLLR Tom Harvey asks why we need seven different councils for Cumbria and makes the case for a single unitary authority (Gazette, January 2, 'Let's have one 'lead council' ').
This is a bit rich coming from a Conservative councillor, given it was a Conservative government that ditched the official recommendations for unitary authorities and instead created the costly and confusing two-tier system we have been saddled with since 1974.
