A WEATHER warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office for Cumbria.
The yellow warning - the lowest level of all warnings - will come into force at midnight and last until 10am on Monday, and is likely to cause travel disruption.
It covers all northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Forecasters have warned of some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, and said that some icy patches will appear on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
Some roads and railways may also be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
A spokesman from the Met Office said: "An area of rain and hill snow will move eastwards across northern England, southern and central Scotland on Sunday night.
"As this clears surface temperatures will rapidly fall below freezing with ice expected to form quite widely, though coastal areas seeing more limited icy stretches.
"Hill snow is expected above about 100m in central Scotland and above about 300m in southern Scotland and the far north of England with 2-6cm of snow possible, mainly for central Scotland."
