A BUMPER turnout of more than 1,500 railway fans made tracks to the Kendal Model Railway Exhibition which was staged at the town’s leisure centre this weekend.

From young children to grandparents and beyond, visitor numbers matched those of previous years at this always popular event which proved once again to be a busy and enjoyable weekend for all enthusiasts.

“It was a very successful weekend,” said Kendal Model Railway Club chairman Dave Grime.

“We’d like to thank all the traders, exhibitors and members of the public for making it such a success.”

There were more than 40 layouts from enthusiasts within the region and beyond, and the layouts were based on a range of actual junctions.

One particularly detailed one was based on Euxton Junction which lies on the West Coast main line just south of Preston.

Other layouts included Loch Syd while there was one based on St Moritz in Switzerland.

The Kendal club supplied three layouts which were all built by their owners, with one member of the local club, Oli Cunningham, demonstrating how he uses an eye-tracking computer to control the trains on his layout.

Trade stands proved to be popular where enthusiasts could buy anything and everything for their model railways, with one trader venturing up from the South Coast to be present.

Th Jack Broadhurst Memorial Shield for ‘best in show’ was won by the Kirtley Bridge layout.
