TWO separate councils have been at loggerheads over a new wind turbine development in Wennington.
The project was part of a private barn conversion several miles from the village. The purpose of the singular wind turbine is to provide electricity for the development, which will be the home of the applicant - one Steve Johnson.
Wennington Parish Council brought a legal challenge against Lancaster City Council on the grounds that the latter had not observed due process in granting permission for the singular turbine development at Ravenswood Barn.
The parish council chairman, Carl Hunter, said that Lancaster Council had "ridden roughshod" over the concerns of Wennington residents by approving the project and that it had disregarded provisions within the 2011 Localism Act.
20 residents objected to the wind turbine - mainly on the grounds that it would be a blot on the landscape.
Richard Wilson, a farmer who lives nearby, said he was "aghast" at the level of opposition to what he believes is "a small contribution to the battle against climate change."
