PEOPLE of different faiths in Kendal came together to celebrate their "common values" during World Interfaith Harmony Week 2020.

The events included a gathering at the Mayor's Parlour in Kendal Town Hall. The mayor, Cllr Alvin Finch, invited guests including representatives from South Lakeland Equality and Diversity Partnership and South Lakeland Interfaith Forum.

Talks were also given by members of faiths including Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Baha’i.

In other events:

- committee members of South Lakeland Interfaith Forum had lunch in Kendal with David Hampshire, assistant director of the Inter Faith Network for the UK

- Mr Hampshire and Jacquetta Gomes, secretary of the Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada), attended a conference at Carlisle entitled Building Resilience Together: Learning from Cumbria’s Experience; both are included as advisers in the booklet Religion, Belief and Culture in our Community.

- and retired Roman Catholic priest Monsignor Francis Slattery, 90, hosted a celebration at Milnthorpe Presbytery.
