Storm Dennis is set to batter Cumbria this weekend bringing very strong wind and rain.

A Met Office weather warning has been updated to include a warning for wind.

Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are in place for the whole weekend.

Storm Dennis will bring rain from 12pm on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday.

The warning for wind is in place from 10am on Saturday until midnight on Sunday.

What to expect:

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and there is a chance that some roads and bridges could close.
  • Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities are likely to be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
