THE A6 to Kendal will be closed this evening.

The section of the road between Junction 39 of the M6 and Kendal will close from 6pm while work to restore water supply to the area is ongoing.

Due to the amount of machinery and heavy goods vehicle movements in the area, which could cause a significant risk to the travelling public, Cumbria County Council says it has taken a joint decision with Cumbria Police and Highways England to close the section of the road until tomorrow morning.

Cllr Keith Little, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “We would like to thank drivers for their patience whilst United Utilities carry out this essential work to restore water supplies in the area. I’d also like to thank the teams of highways officers and our colleagues across the emergency services and partner agencies for their tireless efforts to keep Cumbria moving during what has been a difficult few days following Storm Ciara.”

The road is set to reopen at 6am. The county council assures that resident access will be maintained during the closure.
