A GROUP that has cleared 530 kilograms of plastic from the coast of south Cumbria is planning more clean-ups to remove waste caused by Storm Ciara.

The Beach Clean Cumbria group - which currently has 389 members - has so far cleared beaches at Bardsea, Silecroft, Walney and Aldingham.

They now have plans to blitz beaches at Grange, Bootle, Haverigg and many others further up the county’s coastline, as well as one at Grange on Saturday February 15.

Last week, the group shifted 27kg of waste from Aldingham beach.

A number of its upcoming beach cleans this month have been co-organised by Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Details for these clean-ups can be found on the Wildlife Trust's website.

Organiser Tim Faudemer said: “The beaches need our help now, particularly after these storms to remove any waste that may be a threat to our wildlife.

“Come and join us! And see our Facebook page, Beach Clean Cumbria, for future events.”
