A KENDAL cake is bakery has been shortlisted for an award.

Ginger Bakers is a finalist in the North West Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) Celebrating Small Business Awards 2020.

Bakery owner Lisa Smith said: “Awards like these showcase our commitment to play our part in supporting out local community. We are extremely proud of what we have achieved as a business working alongside organisations like Growing Well, The Family Business Network and Maggie’s Centres.

"We are hugely proud that we have an opportunity to showcase what makes our business tick and how we choose to do business."

Now in their third year, the awards are the leading celebration of small businesses and help to shine a light on some of the most innovative and determined small businesses from across the UK.

As finalists in the Community category, members of the Ginger Bakers team will travel to Manchester on February 28 to attend the regional finals, at the Midland Hotel.

The North West Community award category is a regional award, participating businesses help support their community, through undertaking initiatives that support their local community, including apprenticeships, or who make a positive impact through employee led activities including fundraising, mentoring or other activities.

Hundreds of businesses from across the North West entered the 12 award categories: including Business and Product Innovation, International Business of the Year, Family Business of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Start-Up Business of the Year.

Earlier this month bakery owner Lisa attended the third annual People’s Choice Wine Awards, held at Manchester’s Comedy Store.

She said: “It was a real pleasure to be asked to showcase what we do to such a large audience and to be able to present an award. It was highly appropriate I had the opportunity to present the Sweets For My Sweet category covering dessert wines, especially as consumers are given the opportunity to vote for the wines they like, which is pretty unique. It’s even more impressive when you take into consideration that this is the only National wine award held outside London."
