A SMALL choir that sings to bring comfort to people who are unwell or living in care homes is hoping to attract new members.

The South Lakes Singers, which has six female members, is holding a free drop-in session at the Kendal Unitarian Chapel's schoolroom on Saturday, February 29, from 2pm to 4pm. Tea, coffee and fruit juice will be served.

The singers say they would like to welcome new members who can "hold a tune, sing softly and learn to blend their voices with others".

A group of three singers from the choir visits people with advanced illnesses, their families and carers, as well as people in their own rooms in care homes.

The choir also sings as a group, on request, at special occasions such as funerals and the local Tigerlily Trust annual remembrance service for parents who have lost a baby or child.

The South Lakes Singers are part of the International Threshold Choir, based in the USA, whose two- and three-part harmonies are designed to "create comfort, ease and relaxation" for people on life's thresholds.
