A NEW 50-mile walking challenge is being held in the Lake District in April.

The Lakeland branch of the Long Distance Walkers’ Association (LDWA) is organising the ‘Spring in Lakeland 50’ on the weekend of April 18 and 19.

The event, based in Staveley, gives walkers three options of 18, 34 or 50 miles.

The first, 18-mile loop follows the Dales Way to the outskirts of Windermere before ascending Orrest Head and then returning to Staveley via the Garburn Pass and Kentmere valley. A second loop, taking in Potter Fell and Longsleddale, can then be completed to reach the 34-mile mark. A third loop between Staveley and Kendal will then take the hardiest walkers up to the 50-mile mark.

Entries are now full but there is a waiting list. People can visit www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=5888 to put their names down.
