STUDENTS at Walney School have been hard at work rehearsing for their musical production ‘Legally Blonde Jr’.

Legally Blonde is a film starring Reece Witherspoon where she decides to study law at Harvard despite the odds being stacked against her.

The children have just had their half-term rehearsal and Emily Eason, who is coordinating the musical, said preparations are going well.

"It was a huge amount of dedication from the students to give up their free time to come in and practise," she said.

“We are starting to phase into our dress rehearsals now and for our Year Seven students it is the first time they will have been on a stage like this, so this is important to help them.

“We often do a half-term dress rehearsal to get in as much practise as possible as there is so much that the students have going on in school it is not always easy fitting this in.

“The show is due to open in four weeks so we are getting the costumes, staging and arrangements ready as we are in the home straight now.

“On the Wednesday before the show, we do a performance for the local primary schools for practise as well as giving them a taster of what it is like to be a part of Walney School.

“The production is looking really good and very pink. The stage is going to be completely pink.

“All props, lighting, sounds and staging are being created by the students themselves.

“This started in September when we did auditions, so it is about a six month process.

“The idea behind this theme is female empowerment with a message to never give up on yourself no matter what.

“It is to encourage students to follow their dreams and that you can do it if you work hard.

“This resonates with a lot of school morals we have as well.

“It is about strength, believing in yourself and being kind. It is also very funny, the songs are catchy and the children are absolutely loving it.”

Walney School has announced that tickets for the show are now available from reception or via Parentmail.

They are inviting the public to watch on March 18 and 19.
