TRIBUTES have been paid to a missing pensioner whose body was found at Flookburgh.

Arthur Wilson, 86, of Cark, Cartmel, was discovered at Sand Gate Marsh on Saturday afternoon after being reported missing by his family earlier in the day.

Mr Wilson, who suffers from dementia, was last seen at his home address in Cark at around 1am on Saturday morning.

Following his disappearance, police and residents began an extensive search.

The police issued several appeals to the public over social media for information as they tried to locate Mr Wilson after he went missing on Saturday.

Police confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances and a full report will be prepared for the coroner as soon as possible.

They thanked Bay Search and Rescue, the National Police Air Service, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Coastguard and Mountain Rescue as well as the many residents who came to search for Mr Wilson.

Police also thanked the many people who shared the appeal for information on social media.

A spokesman for Bay Search and Rescue said: “Bay Search and Rescue would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Arthur Wilson, who was found after an extensive search on Sand Gate Marshes yesterday afternoon, following a multiagency search.

“Following a discussion with a local farmer, the decision to undertake a second search of the area was commenced at low water.

“Mr Wilson’s body was discovered soon after.”

Tributes and condolences have poured in online for Mr Wilson and his family following news of his death.
