100 YEARS AGO - 1920

THERE were frequent circular flights of passengers in the aeroplane from Grange over Lindale. The views must have been superb. To the observer from Lindale, the machine seemed to fly very smoothly and one old resident of Lindale, it was alleged, was seen to wave his pocket handkerchief as he passed over his house 1,500 feet below.

50 YEARS AGO - 1970

AFTER the River Kent had become swollen with rain and melting snow, a pump-house at the Kendal sewage works was flooded. Kendal Fire Brigade spent four hours pumping out 60,000 gallons of water. The trouble was caused when the Kent backed up sluice channels. It rose to such a height that permanently installed machinery in the pump-house could not cope. Considerable damage was caused to the floor.

25 YEARS AGO - 1995
