There are five flood alerts and one flood warning in place across Cumbria.

A flood warning remains in place for Keswick Campsite.

The Environment Agency warning says:

  • Derwentwater lake levels remain high after recent rainfall and snow melt. Following further rainfall last night and into today lake levels are continuing to rise further.
  • Further rainfall is forecast overnight tonight and into tomorrow. Consequently, the risk of flooding of low lying land and roads is expected to continue during today and into next week.
  • Low lying areas bordering the shores of Derwentwater and the frontage of the Keswick camping and caravan club site remain affected. Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses which will be flooded.

There are also flood alerts in place for the Rivers Lowther and Eamont, the upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater, Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk, Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster and Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck.

The Rivers Lowther and Eamont alert says:

  • River levels have risen at the Brampton Grange river gauge as a result of rainfall overnight. Consequently, there is a risk of flooding.
  • Low lying land and roads in the Bampton, Patterdale, Glenridding, Dockray, Pooley Bridge, Dacre, Eamont Bridge and Penrith areas may be affected.
  • High river and lake levels are possible on the River Lowther, Haweswater Beck, Goldrill Beck, Grisedale Beck, Glenridding Beck, Aira Beck, Ullswater, River Eamont, Dacre Beck, Thacka Beck and their tributaries. River levels have peaked and will remain steady.

The upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater alert says:

  • River levels and Derwentwater remain high after recent rainfall. We expect this to continue for the coming days.
  • Further rainfall is forecast today and over the weekend, which will result in river and lake levels remaining high. Consequently, the risk of flooding of low lying land, roads and footpaths around Derwentwater and in the upper Derwent catchment remains.
  • Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses which will be flooded.

The Environment Agency flood alert for Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk says:

  • River levels remain high but are beginning to fall at the Egremont river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland will continue throughout today.
  • Low lying land and roads in the Harrington, Distington, Whitehaven, Ennerdale Bridge, Cleator Moor, Cleator, Egremont, Beckermet, Braystones, Calder Bridge, Gosforth, Seascale, Wasdale, Holmrook, Eskdale and Bootle areas may be affected.
  • High river levels are possible on the River Wyre, Distington Beck, Pow Beck, River Ehen, River Keekle, Skirting Beck, Whangs Beck, Kirk Beck, Black Beck, River Calder, River Bleng, River Irt, River Mite, River Esk, River Annas and their tributaries.
  • Further rainfall is forecast overnight. Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

The Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster alert says:

  • River levels and Windermere lake remain high following further rain and snow melt overnight. Further rainfall is forecast overnight tonight and into tomorrow which will result in river and lake levels remaining high.
  • Consequently, the risk of flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to remain possible for a number of days. Low lying land and roads are at risk in Langdale, Grasmere, Ambleside, Troutbeck, Windermere, Hawkshead, Rusland Valley, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cartmel, Cark and Winster Valley areas.
  • High river and lake levels are possible on Great Langdale Beck, River Brathay, River Rothay, Trout Beck, Mill Beck, Cunsey Beck, Windermere lake, Rusland Pool, River Eea, River Winster and their tributaries.
  • Plan driving and walking routes to avoid low lying areas, which may be flooded. Newby Bridge sluices remain open.

The Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck alert says:

  • River levels are high but steady at the Low Nibthwaite river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall overnight. Therefore the risk of flooding continues.
  • Low lying land and roads in the Dunnerdale, Duddon Bridge, Broughton-in-Furness, Kirkby-in-Furness, Soutergate, Coniston, Ulverston, Dalton-in-Furness and Barrow-in-Furness areas may be affected.
  • High river and lake levels are possible on the River Duddon, Kirkby Pool, Soutergate Beck, Church Beck, Yewdale Beck, Coniston Water, River Crake, Town Beck, Dragley Beck, Poaka Beck, Mill Beck and their tributaries. The heaviest rainfall is clearing the area but further rainfall is forecast throughout today and overnight into tomorrow.
  • Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.
