A TWO-VEHICLE collision near Greenodd has left traffic at a standstill for a number of hours.

The crash is understood to have taken place early this morning near Arrad Foot on the A590 westbound between Newland and Greenodd.

The two vehicles involved in the collision were a Volvo and a Mercedes Sprinter.

The Volvo driver was taken to Furness General Hospital, but sustained no serious injuries.

The affected stretch of the road closed for some time but later reopened.

There were lengthy tailbacks and delays for several hours as a result.

Cumbria Police says it has received report of only one crash - at 9.40am.
