THE email sent by Cumbria County Council about the decision to make permanent the Central Area Kendal Experimental Pedestrianisation and Traffic Regulation Order (Gazette, January 30, 'Go ahead for car changes') is more frustrating than my vocabulary can cope with.
The order infringes the law. The law allows for changes to be made to situations, services and the environment but such changes must not make the situation, service or the environment worse or more difficult for disabled people than it was originally.
There can be no argument, this experiment does exactly that. The drastic reduction in the hours disabled parking is now available, alone, makes the situation worse and more difficult for disabled people than it was originally.
There appears to be only one course open and that is to go to court. I know I have a very good case but I am not in a position to chance losing.
So, well done, Cumbria County Council: you have rubbed my face in the dirt as well as all Blue Badge holders in Kendal.
It is quite frightening thinking what the council could do, knowing there is very little chance of it being taken to court.
