There are six flood alerts and one warning in place in Cumbria as parts of the county continue to be battered by rainfall.

Alerts have been issued by the Environment Agency for the coast from Gretna to Silloth, the coast from Silloth to St Bees, the upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater, the coast at Duddon estuary, the coast at Barrow-in-Furness and the coast at north Morecambe Bay.

A flood warning is also in place for Gretna to Silloth including Port Carlisle, Skinburness and Rockcliffe.

The warning says: "Flooding is expected to affect Rockcliffe, Longburgh, Port Carlisle, Bowness-on-Solway, Anthorn, Angerton and Skinburness areas. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land, roads and coastal paths at Mossband Hall, Eden estuary, Burgh Marsh, Port Carlisle, Bowness-on-Solway, Wampool estuary, Waver estuary, Skinburness Marsh, Skinburness and Silloth.

"Coastal conditions are expected to continue for two hours either side of the high tide at 11:45am. This evening's tide will also be at flood alert.

"Incident response staff are closing flood gates. Be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."

The alert for the coast from Silloth to St Bees says: "High tides are expected to affect the foreshore as a result of high spring tides and winds. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land, roads and coastal paths at Beckfoot, B5300 coast road at Dubmill Point, Allonby, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Harrington, Parton and Whitehaven.

"Coastal conditions are expected to continue for two hours either side of the high tide at 11.45am. This evening's tide will also be at flood alert. Incident response staff are closing flood gates. Be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."

For the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater alert, the Environment Agency say: "The levels of Derwentwater, and surrounding rivers, remain high due to rainfall overnight. Further showers are expected throughout the day. Consequently, flooding is expected to affect low lying land and roads in the Seatoller, Stonethwaite, Rosthwaite, Grange-in-Borrowdale and Derwentwater shoreline areas.

"Higher than normal river and lake levels are possible on the River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck, Watendlath Beck, Derwentwater and their tributaries. We currently expect the level of Derwentwater to peak around 1pm this afternoon but will remain high for some time.

"Avoid using low lying footpaths near rivers and Derwentwater shoreline as these may be flooded."

The coast at Duddon estuary alert says: "High tides are expected to affect the foreshore as a result of high spring tides and winds. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land, roads and coastal paths at Millom, Millom Marsh, Duddon Bridge, A595, Foxfield, Angerton Marsh, Kirkby-in-Furness and Askam-in-Furness.

"Coastal conditions are expected to continue for two hours either side of the high tide at 11.45am. Tomorrow’s lunchtime tide will also be at flood alert. Incident response staff are closing flood gates. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."

The alert for the coast at north Morecambe Bay says: "High tides are expected to affect the foreshore as a result of high spring tides and winds. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land, roads and coastal paths at Roosebeck, South Ulverston, Canal Foot, Crake estuary, Rusland Valley, Leven estuary, Eea estuary, Flookburgh, East Plain Farm, Grange-over-Sands, Meathop, Kent estuary, Milnthorpe, B5282 coast road, Sandside and Arnside.

"Coastal conditions are expected to continue for two hours either side of the high tide at 11.30am. Tonight's tide will also be at flood alert. Incident response staff are closing flood gates. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."

The coast at Barrow-in-Furness has an alert which says: "High tides are expected to affect the foreshore as a result of high spring tides and winds. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land, roads and coastal paths at West Shore Park, Biggar Bank Road, Tummerhill Marshes, Rampside and Roa Island.

"Coastal conditions are expected to continue for two hours either side of the high tide at 11.45am. Tonight's tide will also be at flood alert. Incident response staff are closing flood gates. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."
