SPORTS DIRECT will now close its stores after facing backlash from the public after initially stating that its workers would still be selling sports and fitness equipment.
Chris Wootton, chief finance officer of Frasers group, previously communicated in a letter to staff that the company is 'uniquely well placed to help keep the UK fit and healthy as possible during this crisis'
He said: "Our Sports Direct and Evans Cycles stores will remain open where possible to allow us to do this.'.
However, Mr Wootton has now stated that the company's Sports Direct and Evan Cycles stores would not be open until given the go-ahead from the government.
Sports Direct has a number of stores in Cumbria, including one in Barrow.
