THE whole country is in a lockdown with schools shut and nowhere for children to go, making parents worry about how to keep them active.

But thanks to fitness and nutrition expert Joe Wicks, children all over East Lancashire are taking part in PE lessons every weekday on his YouTube channel The Body Coach TV.

Joe is staging live sessions for schoolchildren from Monday to Friday at 9am.

Racking up over 600,000 views on the first day, parents in East Lancashire have also got their children following the 33-year-old’s YouTube sessions from his own home in Surrey.

The Lancashire Telegraph asked readers to send in pictures of their children taking part.

Paul Yates from Haslingden sent a picture of his son Jaxon Burnett-Yates before and after the PE lessons, showing the seven-year-old looking worn out afterwards.

Mr Yates said: “He’s doing great, he’s taken part in all five lessons now.

“It is bringing all of the family together and entertained. It’s a nice morning when we all join in.

“Jaxon plays in two football teams so needs the exercise.”

Claire Stewart from Accrington said her 10-year-old daughter Heidi was loving the classes, and even gets the whole family to join in.

She said: “Heidi is loving it, she’s done it every day this week and now we all join in.

“Joe’s lessons are really good for them because it keeps them and us fit.”

Heidi said: “It’s really fun, and I like it because I do dance at school, so I can still do something.”

Joe started out with his 15-minute cooking videos on Instagram, which saw him get the nation’s laziest people into the kitchen cooking healthy meals.

Now, the fitness star is a household name, and since the coronavirus outbreak, the nation’s favourite new PE teacher.

After the first workout, he tweeted a thank-you to those who took part, saying: “Incredible to think that millions of us were all exercising together all around the world.”

Joe has written a number of books to help people struggling with dieting.
