NINE more deaths were announced at Cumbria healthcare trusts today as a result of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

They come during the biggest single-day death toll, as a further 367 people were reported to have lost their lives after contracting Covid-19.

The overall number of Covid-19-related deaths in England now stands at 1,651.

Three new deaths were recorded at hospitals run by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

The hospitals include Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital.

The deaths occurred on Friday 27, Sunday 29 and Monday March 30.

Meanwhile, six further deaths were reported to have taken place in north Cumbria at hospitals run by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC).

These hospitals include the Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital.

All of the new deaths reported at NCIC took place on Saturday March 28.

In a statement, NHS England said: "Patients were aged between 19 and 98 years old and all but 28 patients (aged between 19 and 91 years old) had underlying health conditions.

Their families have been informed."
