WESTMORLAND and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has joined more than 50 MPs in signing a letter to the Prime Minister calling for compensation for the families of those who lose their lives on the frontline of the battle against coronavirus.
The letter, which has also been signed by 1,150 members of the public, calls for a government compensation scheme similar to that offered by the Armed Forces.
The MPs are calling for the families of those who lose their lives to be offered a lump sum, a guaranteed income, child payments to eligible children under the age of 18, and the government should also offer a contribution towards funeral costs.
Mr Farron said: “Those working on the front line in the battle against coronavirus are heroes.
“They're putting their lives on the line and they deserve to be protected.
“Just like members of the armed forces they should know that if the worst happens, the state will help their families.”
